Villa Finale: A Continuing Legacy
The house now known as Villa Finale was carefully restored in the 1960s by Walter Mathis, a civic leader in San Antonio, and it was his home until his death in 2005. His work on the gardens and house at Villa Finale and leadership in the restoration of houses throughout the King William neighborhood helped to launch a new season of historic conservation in San Antonio. Mathis bequeathed the Villa Finale and his extensive art collections to the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and it is the only National Trust historic site in Texas. The need for a proper visitor’s center emerged in recent years as the museum has grown in influence and expanded their operations. We welcome you to join us for a fun and informative evening with a museum open house and presentation by Visitor’s Center project manager, Alice Arnn, of Michael G. Imber Architects and former Villa Finale museum Executive Director Emerita, Jane Lewis.
