Building Craft: Wood
Wood: Structure, Trim, Paneling, Joinery, and Veneers
1 AIA CEU Credit
In this class, we will explore how the humble tree, once fallen in the forest, has evolved into one of the most versatile building materials—both structurally and decoratively.
We’ll delve into the art of veneers, revealing the intricate beauty of wood as it’s “unraveled.” We’ll also examine awe-inspiring timber structures like the Hammer Beam ceiling at Hampton Court Palace, and celebrate the pinnacle of wood decoration with Grinling Gibbons’ masterful carvings, also at Hampton Court Palace.
